This post will be brief. I have just finished watching the Vice Presidential debate and I have only one thing to say: if someone put me in a room and told me, “Say this, no matter what the question,” and “Make sure you remember to connect with the moms,” and “Fuck the facts…stick with the script!”…I’d be declared a winner too.

I am running through a gamut of emotions right now; the least of which is disgust. Sure, she looked good, she didn’t stumble and stutter like she did with Katie Couric…but seriously, do you want someone who is a robot, who cannot think on their own? Do you want someone who is going to follow, not lead?

I don’t…

I am amazed the pundits are saying she did ok. She didn't answer most of the questions she answered her won questions. Pat Buchanan says she knocked it out of the ballpark because she looked good, vibrant and energetic and even winked at the audience connecting with them. I'd expect him to say that but I hear other saying the same thing.

The early polls though show a leaning toward Biden so I am hoping more the low expectations are not so widespread that this automated simpleton is actually thought of as capable..

Expanding the vp role in the senate is scary stuff.

I believe both Biden and Palin did a tremendous job tonight and stuck to their own agenda. It was win for both tonight!

I don't understand how a person "wins" a debate when she doesn't answer the questions and she says she is not going to answer questions posed to the debaters. She had memorized a lot of talking points. Many people thought the governor was going to be an outright embarassment, but she is a politician and she has skills, charisma, and a following. With the bar set so low, she managed to do a fair job of muddling her way through. It was clear that Biden was experienced and that he knew and understood the questions and that he knew what he was talking about. He could have ripped her to shreds, but of course he would have taken a major blow for doing so.

I don't think Qwen did a good job as moderator; she did not keep it focused on the questions.

In Biden's attempt to not be condescending he was flat, but managed to come alive toward the end of the debate.

I wish these debates would have a little more energy.

Hey Marvalus.

Just check the poll results. Nearly all the polls that matter have Biden as the clear winner. Like you say, she didn't competely trip over her feet like she did in the interviews, but the last half of the debate made it almost painfull obvious that she was nothing more than Memorex. Biden not only commanded the facts and the issues, but he also matched her emotionally and passionately, which, unfortunately, almost matters more than the facts these days.

The first half? Yeah OK. She held her own, if that is defined as not spewing gibberish and saying "yknow Charlie" evdery other sentence, but after about 45 minutes the meltdown began. And that's why the polls are saying what they're saying.

And one final thing, the McCain campaign has pulled out of my hbome state of Michigan, which WAS a battleground state, but now McCain has been forced to concede defeat here and has pulled out his campaign workers. This has never happened in the history of a presidential campaign, folks...

It scares me too. If you listen to her answers, she rarely answered the question or knew what she was talking about, but she went out of her way to prove that she was a "regular person" not a politcian and that's what I'm afraid people are going to come away from the debate with. She wants everyone to think she's just one of them...when that couldn't be farther from the truth.

She did way better than I thought she would, which is sad because I wanted her to give Tina Fey some more material!!!
But seriously, she tried too hard to "connect" with the people with her cute little faces, sayings and names, that IS NOT something I need in a president or vice president. Biden look and acted much more professional, and official. Palin answered questions like the answers were memorized (as they were), it was not real and it showed.
I can envision Obama/Biden in the white house getting things done, kicking butt and taking no prisoners, but when I think of McCain/Palin I envision an old man napping (as old men do) on the oval office couch, and a woman who has no clue what to do while grandpa sleeps so she does nothing while the country suffers..
Sad.

I'm glad you said it. She has only dugg herself in a hole since she was introduced to America. So if you start off low and then appear "Smarter than a Fifth Grader" people are going to think that to be success.

Winner, she is not.

Hello Marvalus,

Critical thinking women have good reason to feel insulted because Sen. John McCain tried to play them for "stupid" by selecting a woman just to help him beat President Barack Obama.

Thank God we only have less than 30 days left to watch Gov. Sarah Palin "wink on demand," duck the media, and dodge questions that a sagacious 5th grader could answer with ease.

If Palin had to meet the high level of expectations the Republicans and biased, blue-collar voters have forced Obama to meet, she'd have one helluva nose bleed.
